  • Spain with Kids – Good to know before you go

Travelling to Spain with kids during summer? We got you!

As we have been to Spain many times with our boys – since they were babies – we have picked up on a thing or two that is good to know when travelling to Spain during summer.

So why is Spain one of our top destinations for our family?

First of all – Spain is a very child-friendly country! Due to its strong family culture, where children are welcome almost everywhere, There are often a wide range of family activities, such as playgrounds, beaches, parks and amusement parks everywhere you go.

Spain is almost always sunny during summer and offers a varied landscape with beaches and sea, but also incredible nature and city pulse. Within Europe the tickets are affordable with good flight departures and reasonable travel time.

Another things is that there are very few concerns regarding diseases such as dengue, malaria, etc. And healthcare is great.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when going to Spain:

β˜€οΈ The midday sun can be intense – we talk really intense – plan outdoor kids adventures early morning or after 6 PM when the temperature is lower. Plot your airconditioned stores to visit to get a paus from the heat if you are in bigger cities or be close to the ocean or in the mountains for a breeze in the shade.

😴 Many shops and restaurants close during siesta (approx. 2–5 PM) – use this time to rest indoors with AC, take a dip in the pool, or enjoy a long lunch in the shade.

β˜€οΈ Hats, sunscreen & refillable water bottles are your best friends. Avoid the UV rays in the middle of the day. Use parasols and UV clothing for the kids for long days at the beach. Babies should be in the shade at all times.

πŸ’¦ Stock up on electrolytes! There are many great pre-made kid-friendly alternatives that tastes like juice. Check out the brand Aquarius that is usually available at both convenience stores and restaurants. Or bring electrolyte powder with you from home that you mix with water. Coconut water is also a great alternative – natures own sports drink!

🍧 Embrace the slower pace, try a local helado, churros and enjoy late dinners like the locals! And don’t stress bedtime – everything happens a bit later in Spain. Many local kids are up late during summertime – don’t be surprised if you see them out playing with friends at 11 PM in the evening.

πŸ’Ά Outdoor markets is a big thing in Spain! There are usually set days for market s and also evening-markets. Bring some cash and give the kids a few coins so they can pick out their own little treasures.

✨ Spain in summer is magical – just let the rhythm of the day guide you.
