\u26cf\ufe0f\u2728\n\nThis weekend, we visited Sala Silvergruva and joined one of their guided underground tours - putting on helmets before descending nearly 60 meters below the surface into the old mine tunnels.\n\nDating back to the 15th century, Sala Silver Mine was once one of Sweden\u2019s most important sources of silver and played a major role in building the Swedish economy and monarchy. Kings heavily depended on the silver extracted here, and during its peak, the mine became one of the country\u2019s most valuable industrial sites.\n\nWalking through the dark, narrow passages while hearing the stories from our guide made the history feel incredibly real. It also gave a deeper understanding of how hard life must have been for the miners who worked here for centuries - deep underground, in cold temperatures, darkness and dangerous conditions.\n\nThe tour was both fascinating and surprisingly moving. Quiet, mysterious and unlike anything we\u2019ve experienced before.
